Web 2.0 and the future

Podcasts could be used to show how to borrow library resources, accessing databases and finding information in the catalogue.

Web 2.0

The most successful application of web 2.0 technology in the library is Flickr. Thousands of images have been loaded and over 1 million hits have been recorded on the site.

End of Learning 2.0 @ UoN

I have finally completed week 9 of the course. Some weeks were difficult to follow. A lot of time could be spent exploring YouTube, and it is very easy to locate absolutely anything on the site. I think the course could be changed to make it more user friendly. Some of the links didn't work, and I struggled to get access to one site for a couple of days, only to get an email later to advise me that I had been granted access. The information covered is quite interesting, but I think it would be better if there was a simple introduction for each week, and if the links were all working it would make working through the course not as frustrating. I could probably understand Technorati if I had a day to work through the exercise.

Mashups

Some of the links were not working. Looked at Godo Australia which was quite interesting, because it covers holidays, travel etc in Australia.

Podcasts

Used Podcast Alley to search for podcasts on a particular subject.

YouTube

Can find absolutely everything on YouTube. Looked at border collies doing tricks, clips from Inspector Rex with Alex Brandtner, but found this clip on Dewey the library cat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jGpvvLmwbs

This is a great site. Loved retail. Easy to use and lots of great photos.

Week 7: Wikis- have absolutely struggled to logon on to UoN Learning 2.0 Wiki, but cannot. Finally http://judyh.pbworks.com/w/newpage/create/

Found the St. Joseph County Public Library system wiki http://www.libraryforlife.org/subjectguides/index.php/Main_Page quite interesting. Subject headings included "finding hidden history with metal detectors' and the pets included a librarian's favorite book "Life is good", tips for pet owners and information about pet adoption.

Technorati

Have just tried to work through the online information for Technorati, but with no success. Googled "Technorati" and tags to find out more information.
